Songwriting & performing
Writing folk songs means writing stories with a guitar instead of a reporter's laptop (like I did in my day prior to social work. Now living in Springfield, VT, I moonlight virtually and in person across greater New England to carry on the folk music tradition. Writing songs comes from somewhere deep inside and forces itself into expression on the guitar and vocally. I hope you enjoy the lyrics and music!
Roads, my latest album, hit streaming platforms June 4, 2023. 2010 featured Love Is Hard, which was preceded by Letting Go.
Gigs featuring these and newer folk songs range from songwriter shows in the round in New London CT, Providence RI and Randolph VT to solo performances and festivals chiefly in Vermont, where I moved in 2018.
A love of songwriting and performing first grew from a reverence for poets John Keats, Adrienne Rich and W.H. Auden, then led to scrutiny of the lyrical power and showmanship of folk music legends Janis Ian, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens and Tracy Chapman. Influenced by them, I combine storytelling and portraits with the themes of love, loss and the human condition.
